Finance ministry commissions regional treasury service centre in Kabarole

KABAROLE –The Ministry of Finance through the Accountant General’s Office Directorate of Financial Management Service has commissioned a regional treasury centre for the Rwenzori Sub-region to address challenges of network breakdown.

Most district local governments in the country have been experiencing network challenges while using the Integrated Financial Management System [IFMS] which has been delaying the submission of district financial reports in time.

The centre that was commissioned at Kabarole district headquarters will be serving 11 districts of Rwenzori Sub-region.

Aiden David Rujumba, the commissioner financial management system in the Ministry of Finance said the centre which is digital will train districts’ staff handling financial matters.

“The centre will be used to train staff in financial-related departments in the districts since we are now in the digital world,” Rujumba said.

He said many issues have been coming up related to network failure while using IMFS. He said with the new centre, challenges that were being experienced would now be addressed effectively.

“This is the centre through which the Ministry of Public Service can provide technical support for all payroll-related issues,” he said.

Charles Otai, the accounting officer Ntoroko district said he would no longer have to travel to Kampala to submit financial reports, thus cutting transport and other costs.

Anthony Lukwago the Accounting officer Kabarole district said with this centre their local revenue collection in the district will improve as well as sending and receiving reports on time.

The Kabarole district vice chairperson, Stella Kyorampe said the issue of late salaries will not be expected anymore, as it has been a challenge in the district.

The treasury service centre has been commissioned will serve the Rwenzori Sub-region districts of Kabarole, Kamwenge, kyenjojo, Kitagwenda, Bunyangabu, Kyegegwa, Ntoroko Kasese, Bundibugyo and Fort Portal city.
