UMPCU to hold AGM this May

KAMPALA-Member cooperatives of Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union [UMPCU] Limited will hold their Annual General Meeting [AGM] on May 26, 2022, according to the Union’s Board Secretary James Tukaikiriza.

UMPCU is owned by 35 grassroots primary cooperative societies located in the “cattle corridor” and one in northern Uganda. It brings together 2617 beef farmers.

Tukaikiriza says each primary cooperative society will nominate one delegate for the meeting to be held at the Uganda Museum in Kampala.

“The Chairpersons of the respective primary cooperative societies are requested to nominate only one delegate to represent the cooperative,” he says.

As part of the agenda, there will be the presentation of the management report, audit report, and annual budget 2022.

Last year’s UMPCU AGM held on April 29, 2021, at Fairway Hotel in Kampala saw delegates from 33 primary society cooperatives attend.

Some of the primary cooperative societies that form UMPCU are; Bigassa Kitanda Meat Cooperative Society, Biharwe Meat Cooperative Society, Buremba Meat Cooperative Society, Butemba Meat Cooperative Society, Endiinzi Meat Cooperative Society, Gomba Meat Cooperative Society, Gulu Meat Cooperative Society, Isingiro United Meat Cooperative Society, Kabuyanda Nshenyi Meat Cooperative Society, Kamira Meat Cooperative Society,  Kashongi Meat Cooperative Society.

Others are; Kenshunga Meat Cooperative Society, Kiganda Tukole Meat Cooperative Society, Kigando Meat Cooperative Society,  Kinoni  Meat Cooperative Society, Kinyogoga Meat Cooperative Society,  Kitenga Kayebe Meat Cooperative Society, Kyanamukaka Meat Cooperative Society, Kyankwanzi Meat Cooperative Society and Kyarujungu Meat Cooperative Society, Kyazanga  Meat Cooperative Society.

Among the activities, UMPCU does for the benefit of member cooperatives are; enhancing livestock production and productivity through the model farmer and the mentorship approaches and increasing financial access and inclusion through provision of working capital, credit and advance to cooperative members.

Other activities are;  livestock marketing, value addition, and enterprise development, working where cooperatives are developed as centres for livestock marketing, business innovation and business development, lobbying and advocacy through engaging different livestock stakeholders on policy direction, review or change, and institutional development by increasing participation of all stakeholders from the grassroots.
