EBRD and Attijari bank Tunisia expand risk-sharing partnership
Expansion of facility will improve access to finance for businesses across Tunisia
TUNIS, August 28, 2026 — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development [EBRD] has increased an existing risk-sharing facility with Attijari bank Tunisia from €20 million to €70 million, aimed at expanding access to finance for businesses in Tunisia.
The EBRD is also providing a new US$10 million [€8.6 million] facility to support environmental, social and governance [ESG] investments by corporate clients of the bank.
Eligible investments under the new facility will receive grants funded by the United Kingdom through the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action [HIPCA].
The expanded risk-sharing facility will enable Attijari bank Tunisia to extend more financing to companies across different sectors, supporting private-sector investment and development.
The additional US$10 million facility will finance investments designed to improve companies’ environmental and social performance. Eligible projects may include energy-efficiency upgrades, renewable-energy installations, waste-reduction technologies, employee training, fair labour practices, risk management and gender equality initiatives.
The EBRD and Attijari bank Tunisia have so far supported 25 projects through the existing risk-sharing facility, providing around TND400 million €118 million] in financing.
Under its Risk Sharing Facility, the EBRD shares the risk of lending with partner financial institutions, helping to mobilise finance for investment and private-sector development.
Since beginning operations in Tunisia, the EBRD has invested more than €3.1 billion in 97 projects across the country. About 66 per cent of its investment has gone to the private sector.
HIPCA is a multi-donor partnership managed by the EBRD. Its donors include Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, TaiwanICDF, the United Kingdom and the United States.
