Kamuli businessman survives death in follow-home front-gate robbery

KAMULI– The Territorial Police in Kamuli, is investigating another follow-home front-gate attack and robbery, which occurred on July 5, 2022, at 8 pm, at Bukaga zone, Southern Division, in Kamuli Municipality, Kamuli district.

According to Police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga, the incident happened as two armed robbers attacked a one Hajji Swale Mukembo, a prominent businessman in the area. The thugs who were traveling on a bodaboda, are said to have robbed Mukembo of Shs 2 million, keys to the shop, and keys to his motor vehicle, a Toyota Harrier, UAV 809P, black in colour.

“They immediately after escaped with their loot. The fortunate part of it, is that the victim was not injured. He did the right thing and handed over the valuable items on him. The overriding consideration in dealing with a robbery is to reduce the possibility of an injury,” Enanga said.

This, Enanga said, was the second incident in Kamuli in a period of four months. Once again, we urge the public to take extra care when leaving and returning home. “Always try to reduce the chance of being targeted by altering your routines, gate surveillance, maintain well-lit and visible entrance and where possible deployment of security guards.”

The Flying Squad Unit was dispatched to the area to effectively track down the suspects and ensure they are brought to book, he said.

A way from Kamuli the robbery, CP Enanga has warned dealers in second-hand clothes to stop selling camouflage clothing to the public, saying criminals are using them to commit crimes.

“As the Joint Security Agencies, we continue to receive concerns over the sale of camouflage clothing by dealers of second-hand clothes, especially to criminal-minded persons who are now using them for criminal purposes.

In the operations carried out in the hotspot areas of Kyengera, Busega, Nateete, Nansana, Nabweru, Kawempe, Makindye, and Mukono, we have recovered camouflage clothes being used by the criminal gangs for robbery, he says

“We are taking a tougher stance once persons are found wearing or dealing in camouflage clothing in public,” Enanga warned.
