Gen.Katumba warns politicians against sabotaging PDM

KOLE– The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, has warned politicians in Lango Sub-region against sabotaging the Parish Development Model [PDM].

Katumba made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the congregation of Christians during the wedding of Sargent Alfred Oculi and his wife Judith Oculi, an event held at All Saints Church of Uganda Barakalo in Kole district.

PDM is a government aimed at moving the 3.5 million households that are in subsistence farming into the money economy through job and wealth creation in sectors such commercial agriculture, industrialisation, modern services, and information and communications technology [ICT].

Gen. Katumba said a number of government programmes have failed to serve the intended purposes due to some politicians whom he said decampaign such programmes like; the Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme [YLP], and the Women Entrepreneurship Programme [UWEP].

“Government has initiated a number of projects in the country but some of these projects have failed to change the lives of the poor due to the habit of some politicians who go around decampaigning the programmes in the guise of opposing the government this is wrong,” he said.

“It is time to stop politicising government programmes but to embrace them, especially the Parish Development Model. This is our new baby and as government we will not tolerate anyone who intends to frustrate this programme,” he added.

Joy Atim Ongom, the former Lira District Woman Member of Parliament while speaking at the wedding ceremony pledged her total commitment to supporting the implementation of the new government programmes.

The Venerable Rev. Canon Vincent Ogwang, the Dean of the Diocese of West Lango who presided over the wedding challenged Oculi and his wife Judith to work to remain the holy marriage.

In his reference to the book of Genesis 5:6, Rev. Ogwang encouraged those looking for marriage partners to make the right choices in order to avoid regrets.

“Marriage is supposed to have peace and homes are supposed to live at peace but a number of families are living in hell on earth because of making wrong choices. I want to encourage the young people who are searching for marriage partners to make the right choices, look beyond colour, tribe and size. You will never regret it,” he said.
