WSACCO supports Makindye boda boda riders

KAMPALA – The chairman of Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society [ WSACCO ], Maj Gen. Sam Kavuma has handed three motorcycles worth Shs 13 million to Makindye Professional Boda Boda SACCO.

The motorcycles were a pledge the general made earlier while delivering a lecture to the SACCO leadership on how to manage the SACCO at the invitation of Doreen Kagabi Keita, the resident city commissioner Makindye.

Gen. Kavuma noted that the motorcycles would support the young SAÇCO to generate more income for members.

“The motorcycles will directly help in boosting the income of Makindye Professional Boda Boda Association by enabling the members themselves to generate income at the household level,” he said.

Kavuma encouraged the leadership of the SACCO to put the motorcycles to good use and take advantage of the peace in the country to improve themselves by being productive.

He also cautioned boda boda riders against involving themselves in riots and acts of violence, saying they will be exposed to many risks.

He further advised the leaders not to use the motorcycles for criminal activities, warning that they would be tracked. “You need to put these motorcycles to serious business so that you can earn from them. Don’t use them for dubious activities,” Kavuma said.

The chairman of Makindye Professional Boda Boda SACCO, Umar Isabirye, appreciated WSACCO for the donation.

“We used to fear the army because soldiers used to kill people and do all sorts of evils for survival. The UPDF is different because it is the people’s army.  We appreciate President Museveni for having professionalised and disciplined the army that secured the country,” noted Isabirye.

WSACCO now has regional branches across Uganda.
