KAMPALA, July 28, 2026 — Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has tasked the Economic Policy Research Centre [ EPRC ] to focus on generating evidence-based economic policy research and analysis to support Uganda’s ambition of achieving a US$ 500 billion economy by 2040.
The Minister made the remarks on Monday while meeting the Board and Management of the Economic Policy Research Centre at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development offices in Kampala.
Established in 1993 by the Ministry of Finance and Makerere University, EPRC was created to build in-country capacity for policy research and has since grown into Uganda’s leading economic policy think tank.
Musasizi said evidence-based research is critical in enabling policymakers to make informed decisions that drive the country’s socio-economic transformation. He added that there was a need for more research to ensure that the anchor sectors under the ATMS strategy deliver Uganda’s tenfold growth agenda.
“Evidence-based research provides the foundation for sound policies that can accelerate economic transformation and guide the country towards achieving its development targets,” Musasizi said.
EPRC Executive Director Dr Sarah Ssewanyana said the institution remains committed to playing a central role in supporting evidence-informed policymaking and contributing to national development strategies.
She said EPRC’s work is fully aligned with the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV) and the Tenfold Growth Strategy, adding that the centre is also strengthening stakeholder engagement, policy uptake, digitisation of research dissemination and knowledge management.
Meanwhile, EPRC, in partnership with the African Development Bank Group [AfDB] Uganda Office, will on Wednesday hold a virtual launch of the 2026 Uganda Country Focus Report.
The event will feature a panel discussion on “Mobilising Uganda’s Development Financing at Scale in a Fragmented World.”
The expected panellists include Brian Sserunjogi, Senior Fellow at EPRC; John Musinguzi Rujoki, Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority; Patrick M. Ayota, Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund; and Patricia Ojangole, Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank.
