LIRA– Development Initiative for Northern Uganda [DINU] has donated medical equipment worth 200 million to Lira University Teaching Hospital.
According to officials, the medical equipment will help fight malnutrition in the communities, and improve the teaching of health sciences at the university through evidence-based practices and research.
The equipment includes CBC Machine, Ultra Sound Scanners, digital Blood Pressure machines, Echocardiography machines, ECG machine, digital weighing machines, and grinders among others.
Dr Omech Bernard, the DINU coordinator and also a senior lecturer, at Lira University handed over the equipment to the university vice-chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng last Thursday.
Omech noted that DINU`s, overall objective is to consolidate stability in Northern Uganda, eradicate poverty and under nutrition, and strengthen the foundations for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development.
He said the university is contributing to rational utilisation of nutritious foods, community-based child and maternal nutrition and public health as well as family planning services in Lango and Acholi sub-regions.
Prof. Ogwal lauded DINU Programme for the supporting improvement of health services at the Teaching Hospital.
He added that partnering with national and international organisations is key in the development of the University.
DINU is euro Shs 150 million programme funded by the European Union to support interventions in food security, infrastructures and good governance in Northern Uganda.
The programme supervised by the Office of the Prime Minister was launched in 2017 is being implemented in Lango, Acholi, West Nile, Karamoja and Teso sub-regions. It is slated to end next year.
