Lira Park Vendors SACCO on steady progress but call for training on Financial Management

Lira Urban Transporters Savings and Credit Cooperatives, a SACCO that has over 400 members including car owners, conductors and all kinds of park vendors plan to boost up activities that will see them grow.

Speaking to this news site on Wednesday, Mr Oyet Patrick the Chairperson Lira Urban Transporters SACCO limited confirmed that since its inception in 2017, the SACCO has registered tremendous growth both in membership and financially.

However, some members still have a wrong mindset and attitude towards savings culture yet there is platform for both saving and borrowing for the members. The SACCO was, in fact, started to support the development and fighting poverty through saving, crediting out at a low interest rate, Oyet said.

Oyet said because of such challenges, the Board of Directors plans to collaborate with Microfinance Support Center (MSC) and Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA) and hold training for all the members and executives on financial management in order for members to actively embrace all the principles of cooperatives.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting last Friday, Mrs. Amolo Josephine who is the District Commercial Officer Lira tasked Lira Urban Transporters SACCO limited to operate vibrantly and avoid misuse of office.

The meeting was held at Lira Municipal Council Hall with members, DCO and Mayor Lira Municipal Council present among others.

The SACCO has its office centered at Lira Bus Park
