Gov’t Chief Whip urges locals in Alebtong to embrace PDM and Emyooga
ALEBTONG, December 1, 2025 — Government Chief Whip and National Resistance Movement [NRM] flag-bearer for Ajuri County Member of Parliament , Denis Hamson Obua, has called on residents in his constituency to fully embrace government wealth-creation programmes aimed at reducing household poverty.
While campaigning recently in Ober, Yikwii, Alongo and Agony, Obua, who also serves as NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to safeguarding the social and economic gains achieved under its leadership.
Obua, also the incumbent, urged communities to take advantage of government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model [PDM], Operation Wealth Creation [OWC] and Emyooga, saying these are key to improving livelihoods and moving rural populations into the money economy.
“These achievements are not accidental. They are the foundation upon which many households have been lifted out of poverty and empowered to join the money economy,” he said.
He encouraged the people of Ajuri County to continue supporting government programmes, and to vote for President Yoweri Museveni and all NRM flag-bearers in the upcoming elections scheduled for 15 January 2026.
Ajuri County in Alebtong district, which split from Moroto County. It comprises six sub-counties and one town council, including Amugu, Omoro, Amugu Town Council, Adwir, Angetta, Abako and Awei.
Obua is contesting against four challengers: Fred Jalameso of the Uganda People’s Congress, Emmanuel Ongom Okwel of the Forum for Democratic Change, Jasper Molo (Independent) and Steven Onara Anyeko (Independent).
Leaders across Ajuri County have urged elected representatives to address longstanding issues affecting communities, particularly in infrastructure, health, education and access to clean water.
Pressing community needs
The LC3 Chairperson of Omoro Sub-county, Isaac Apenyo, said poor road conditions remain the biggest challenge.
“Let them prioritise rehabilitation of roads. When roads are good, people can access markets, health services, and children can go to school,” he said.
He also called for the renovation of dilapidated school buildings, the recruitment of more teachers, and better salaries to motivate staff.
Apenyo emphasised the need to upgrade health facilities and restock them with essential medicines. He further urged the government to increase access to clean and safe water, noting that many villages still rely on unsafe wells.
The LC3 Chairperson of Adwir Sub-county, Francis Ogwang Abwang, echoed similar concerns, citing frequent drug stockouts at the sub-county’s only health facility.
“People return very disappointed when they find no drugs, and many cannot afford to buy from private drug shops,” Ogwang said.
He also highlighted the shortage of female teachers in rural schools, which he said contributes to high dropout rates among girls and increased cases of early pregnancy.
Ogwang appealed to the Alebtong District Local Government to prioritise the deployment of more female teachers to rural schools to support girl-child education.
Obua is contesting against Stephen Omara [Independent], Fred Jalameco of the Uganda People’s Congress [UPC], and Emmanuel Ongom Okwel of the Forum Democratic Change [FDC].
