Dei Group ventures into organic fertilier production
According to Herbert Gasasira, Operations and Quality Manager at the newly established Dei Organic International, the fertiliser is poised to transform Uganda’s agricultural landscape

KAMPALA, May 22, 2025 — The Dei Group of Companies, owned by renowned Ugandan scientist and entrepreneur Dr. Mathias Magoola, has officially ventured into organic fertiliser production with the launch of its new product, Organic New Earth [ONE].
According to Herbert Gasasira, Operations and Quality Manager at the newly established Dei Organic International, the fertiliser is poised to transform Uganda’s agricultural landscape.
“This fertiliser nourishes the soil, allowing the soil to feed the plants as nature intended,” Gasasira explained. “It’s a completely organic solution made through composting chicken manure and green waste—both natural materials. The goal is to revitalise the soil and promote truly organic farming.”
Gasasira emphasised that the product is not designed for specific crops but rather focuses on restoring soil health to support a wide variety of plants. He also noted that the new venture is expected to boost farmers’ yields and incomes, while generating employment across agriculture, manufacturing, and distribution sectors.
At the launch event, Alex Lwakuba, Commissioner for Crop Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the global shift toward healthier, chemical-free food.
“There is a growing international demand for safe, hazard-free food. Organic agriculture, which avoids synthetic inputs, is not only sustainable but also highly marketable,” Lwakuba said. “Uganda has a unique opportunity to capitalize on this trend and position itself as a key supplier in the global organic market.”
Shalton Namuwoza, CEO of the National Organic Agricultural Movement of Uganda [NOGAMU], welcomed the initiative, noting a significant gap in organic food production across Africa.
“This innovative product has the potential to revolutionise organic farming in Uganda,” Namuwoza said. “We have what it takes to become the food basket not just of East Africa, but of the entire continent when it comes to organic produce.”
Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture affirmed their commitment to supporting innovations like Organic New Earth, which align with Uganda’s broader strategy to become a leader in global organic food markets.
