Soroti Blood Bank receives new ambulance worth Shs 300mln
SOROTI CITY, January 31, 2025 – Service delivery is expected to improve at Soroti Regional Blood Bank following the arrival of a new ambulance valued at Shs 300 million.
While handing over the ambulance recently, Dr Ahmed Bumba, the Principal Medical Officer at Uganda Blood Transfusion Services, stated that he would ensure it is put to proper use.
“With this ambulance, which will ease transport, we strongly believe that even more blood will be collected from different areas for patients,” Dr Bumba said, adding that it would enhance service delivery.
Martha Ajilong, the head of the regional blood bank located at Soroti Referral Hospital (SRRH), also noted that the ambulance would play a vital role in mobilising blood from communities and schools.
She explained that the hospital had been facing a blood shortage due to challenges in reaching local communities and schools. “With the ambulance now available, collecting blood has been made easier,” Ajilong said.
She urged locals to be cooperative and donate blood whenever they are called upon. “There is always a shortage of blood during school holidays, and access to blood from community members is not easy,” she added.
Dr Benedicto Watmon, the Director of SRRH, confirmed that the government had provided the funds for the ambulance.
