Uganda Cooperative Alliance Decries Unrealistic Regulations

The Uganda Cooperative alliance continues to voice out their dissatisfaction concerning the proposed tax on SACCOS, saying the move suffocates financial inclusion efforts which were already picking up especially in rural areas.

Ivan Asiimwe, the general secretary of the Uganda Cooperative Alliance, an apex body for cooperatives in the country, says government should consider dropping this proposal to create room for cooperatives to fully recover since they had collapsed. To him, it is too early to reverse a 10 year tax waiver which was granted to cooperatives last year.
