Top gov’t official rallies Lango locals on embracing PDM
LIRA– The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ketty Lamaro has appealed to the people in Lango Sub-region to embrace the Parish Development Model [ PDM ] if they are to boost their household incomes.
Lamaro was presiding over a graduation ceremony at Lira School of Comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery in Lira City East Division where 732 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in nursing and midwifery.
She said government intends to improve the economic and health status of Ugandan citizens as stipulated in vision 2040.
“The government is committed to delivering PDM to its citizens for economic stability and also develop human resources for the health sector in line with the Uganda Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan III Goals,” she said.
According to the Ministry of Local Government, each of the 10,594 parishes will receive Shs100 million as a revolving fund each financial year, from which residents borrow as they engage in income-generating activities.
Vision 2040 aims at transforming Uganda from a predominantly peasant and low-income country to a competitive upper-middle-income country.
It is conceptualised around strengthening the fundamentals of the economy to harness the abundant opportunities around the country.
The opportunities include; oil and gas, tourism, minerals, ICT business, abundant labour force, geographical location and trade, water resources, industrialization, and agriculture.
Government introduced the PDM to bring all Ugandans into money economy.
The latest figures from Uganda Bureau of Statistics indicate that 39 percent of Ugandans are still in subsistence economy.
The PDM has seven pillars including; production, storage, processing and marketing; infrastructure and economic services; financial inclusion; social services; mindset change; parish based management information system governance and administration.
The government recently said it had released 50 percent of the PDM budget for the financial year 2022/23. It earmarked over a trillion shillings for PDM SACCOs during the financial year.
