Embracing PDM: Govt Chief Whip Obua urges Alebtong lower council leaders to mobilise citizens

LIRA-Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua has called upon LCI and LCII chairpersons in Alebtong district to mobilise people to embrace Parish Development Model [PDM] as well as monitor other government programmes.

Handing over 794 bicycles to the local leaders days ago at the district headquarters, Obua cautioned the leaders against selling off the acquired bicycles as well as overdrinking alcohol.

“The most fundamental usage of these bicycles is to facilitate you to monitor the Government programmes and mobilize people in your respective area of jurisdiction,” Obua said.

Obua urged leaders to use the bicycles to mobilise pregnant mothers to attend antenatal care, monitor the performance of village health teams [VHTs], and security.

“My advice to you is to ensure that these bicycles are put into proper and effective use and I also want to warn you against elements within the society that will be targeting to steal the bicycles,” Obua added.

“Keep them safe and use it to mobilise people to receive government programmes such PDM, vaccination, mobilize children to go to school and monitoring ongoing construction in schools,” Obua said.

He said the bicycles are being as a fulfillment of President Yoweri Museveni`s pledge to all the local leaders across the country.

The resident district commissioner, Robert Adiama also cautioned them against using the bicycles to vend charcoal.

“It’s to monitor the government programmes, security of your villages, and linking the area to the Sub-county and the district,” he added.

The district LC5 chairperson, David Kennedy Odongo emphasised further that leaders should use the bicycles to mobilise parents to send children to school as well as pregnant mothers to visit and deliver in health facilities.

He also advised them to mobilize the communities to clear and fix roads within their area to make it accessible.

James Onyanga, the LC1 of Amwak village in Omoro Sub-county applauded government for providing bicycles, saying they will ease mobility as leaders mobilise citizens to embrace government programmes.

However, Onyanga urged government to increase the monthly pay of village chairpersons from the current Shs 10,000 to Shs 25,000 to enable them to meet their family demands.

Santa Auma, the LC1 of Okaonyac in Amugu town council commended President Museveni for fulfilling his pledge for offering bicycles.

“We do a lot of work and I want to thank President Museveni for his wisdom but I also want to add my voice that he should consider increasing our monthly wages,” Auma said.

David Ogwang, the LC1 boss of Ocom village in Amugu Sub-county, said the bicycle will him to deliver information to the sub-county, adding that in the past he would hire boda boda, which was costly.

Robert Okullo, the LC3 of Angetta Sub-county, said they would monitor the village leaders closely to see that the bicycles are properly utilised.
