Teso: RDCs urged on strengthening security to foster economic development
MBALE, January 11, 2024 – The Resident District Commissioners [RDCs] and District Internal Security Officers [DISOs] in Teso Sub-region have been urged to collaborate with the Uganda People’s Defence Force [UPDF] and other security agencies in the country to create stability needed to boost development in the area.
Don William Nabasa, the UPDF 3rd Division Commander, while addressing RDCs and DISOs during a three-day workshop at Wash and Wills Hotel in Mbale City, challenged the officials to improve security in their areas of operation so that the masses can engage in commercial production.
He said] the UPDF has stabilised Karamoja Sub-region, paving the way for developmental activities such as farming and trade to take place.
Nabasa cautioned RDCs and DISOs to work tirelessly with UPDF and other security agencies to foster development in their areas.
Daudi Migereko the former Minister for Housing and Urban Development urged the security officials to popularise government programmes such as Parish development Model [PDM].
He also encouraged them to engage in agricultural mechanisation to uplift their house hold incomes.
The RDCs commended the Office of the President and the line Ministry of the Presidency for organising the capacity building workshop and expressed commitment to maintaining security and guiding local communities to embrace government programmes like the PDM and Emyooga.
Ahmed Washaki, the Kumi RDC said that despite some disturbances from some Karimojong who have of late crossed into Teso Sub-region, Kumi district is peaceful.
He added that they are now prioritising mobilisation of residents towards engaging in developmental programmes.
He also called upon parents to engage their children in productive activities, saying it would improve their lives.
