Teso College Aloet set to plant 20,000 trees for planting

The trees were donated to the school by Salem Brotherhood, a non-governmental organisation in Mbale City that works with the communities to conserve the local environment.

SOROTI, August 7, 2024 – Teso College Aloet has received 20,000 tree seedlings to plant, which should help mitigate climate change’s effects, and beautify the school more.

The trees were donated to the school by Salem Brotherhood, a non-governmental organisation in Mbale City that works with the communities to conserve the local environment.

Andrew Epenyu, Deputy Director, Salem Brotherhood urged the school to be ready to plant the tree seedlings, saying that when they grow, they will provide beautiful scenery and fresh air to the school and the neighbouring communities.

Epenyu, who also doubles as the Vice-president of the school’s alumni, said she was hopeful its administration will take care of the trees so that they don’t dry up.

He urged other institutions that want to plant trees to show interest, saying his organisation is ready to partner with any institution interested in conserving the environment.

On his part, Prof. Godfrey Akileng, Chairman of Finance Committee said the school’s alumni would also help to plant the donated trees.

According to environmental scientists, trees provide a wealth of environmental, social and economic benefits to homes, neighborhoods, institutions, and communities.

Further, trees and forests improve air and water quality, sequester carbon dioxide, reduce stormwater and flooding, shade and cool their surroundings, produce oxygen, provide habitat for wildlife, increase property values, and improve human physical and mental health.
