President Samia advocates for strong cooperatives in TZ

DODOMA, September 24, 2024 – The President of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has asked the Ministry of Agriculture to look at the cooperative sector with a unique eye to build strong cooperative societies that they can continue to contribute to the country’s development.

Dr. Samia said this recently while closing the Farmers’ Fair known as “Nanenane” in Nzuguni Fields in Dodoma.

“In order for the major reforms we are making in the agriculture, livestock, and fishing sectors to bring sustainable economic results, we must build strong cooperatives; therefore, I want the Ministry of Agriculture to look at this sector to restore the status and contribution of cooperatives in the country,” she said.

In addition, Samia has asked farmers not to be afraid of capital because the Government is going to increase the availability of loans at low interest rates through various financial institutions.

On the other hand, Samia assured farmers access to markets and provision of seed subsidies to farmers and asked them to register in the system to benefit from these subsidies. “The government’s goal is to help farmers so that they can be independent,” said Samia.

The President asked farmers not to be afraid of capital, saying government would increase the availability of loans at low interest rates through various financial institutions.
