KAMPALA, October 26, 2026 – Participatory Ecological Land Use Management [PELUM] Uganda is set to host the 5th Agroecological Market Systems Expo [AMASE] in Kampala on Wednesday, bringing together farmers, agribusinesses, financial institutions and other stakeholders to explore investment opportunities, strengthen business partnerships and promote sustainable food systems.
The expo, scheduled to take place at Hotel Africana’s People’s Space will be held under the theme, “Building Strategic Partnerships for Resilient Agroecological Enterprises and Sustainable Market Systems”.
According to PELUM Uganda, the event will provide a platform for agroecological enterprises to showcase innovations, establish business connections, access markets and explore solutions to challenges affecting the growth and competitiveness of sustainable agricultural enterprises.
PELUM Uganda Country Coordinator, Josephine Akia Luyimbazi, said in a recent communication that the expo would provide opportunities for businesses to engage potential customers, investors and development partners while exploring strategies for strengthening the agroecological sector.
“AMASE 2026 will be a marketplace for opportunities and solutions, supporting enterprises to prepare before the Expo, engage customers and partners during the event, and access continued support afterwards,” Luyimbazi said.
She explained that this year’s event would introduce new initiatives aimed at improving the business environment for agroecological enterprises, particularly in areas of technology adoption, certification, investment and market access.
Among the key activities will be the TELL ME SPACE, where participants will learn about technologies, agricultural practices and business solutions designed to improve productivity and enterprise competitiveness.
The expo will also feature a Business Clinic on “Making Money Through Agroecology”, aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with practical knowledge on developing profitable and sustainable agricultural businesses.
Another major activity will be a panel discussion on certification challenges facing agroecological entrepreneurs in Uganda, particularly small-scale producers seeking access to formal and higher-value markets.
Luyimbazi said the event would also witness the launch of an Enterprise Partnership and Referral Framework intended to provide continued support to agroecological enterprises beyond the expo.
She noted that the initiative would help strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and improve access to business development services, investment opportunities and markets.
“The Expo will bring together agroecological and organic input dealers, producers, processors, business service providers, farmer organisations, Territorial Market actors, renewable energy actors, financial institutions, technology innovators, researchers, certification and quality assurance bodies, policymakers, agribusinesses, consumers, media and development partners from across Uganda,” Luyimbazi said.
She emphasised that stronger collaboration among these stakeholders would be critical in addressing challenges affecting agroecological businesses and creating sustainable market opportunities.
“Your participation will help strengthen business partnerships, networking and awareness, and identify solutions to improve enterprise competitiveness, sales, investment, market access and trade in agroecological innovations for sustainable food systems,” she said.
The expo comes amid growing efforts to promote sustainable agricultural practices, strengthen farmers’ participation in agricultural value chains and improve the commercial viability of environmentally friendly farming enterprises.
Through the event, PELUM Uganda seeks to encourage greater cooperation between producers, processors, financial institutions and other market actors to support the development of resilient agroecological enterprises.
The organisation has been promoting ecological land use management and sustainable rural livelihoods since 1995, with particular emphasis on supporting small-scale farmers and strengthening rural communities.
PELUM Uganda is part of a civil society association operating in 14 countries across Eastern and Southern Africa.
According to the organisation, its membership in Uganda comprises 122 districts and reaches more than three million smallholder farmers through its network and programmes.
The forthcoming expo is expected to provide participating enterprises with opportunities to showcase their products and services, establish commercial relationships and explore innovative approaches to building sustainable and competitive agricultural market systems.
