Museveni delivers State of the Nation Address today

The SONA is provided for under Article 101 [1] of the Constitution

KAMPALA, June 4, 2026 — President Yoweri Museveni today delivers the State of the Nation Address [SONA] to the 12th Parliament of Uganda and the nation.

This is the first SONA in the new term of the President and Parliament, after the general elections were held in January 2026.

The SONA is provided for under Article 101 [1] of the Constitution, which says: “the President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament, deliver to Parliament an address on the state of the nation.”

The House sitting which marks the start of the 1st Session of of the 12th Parliament, will be held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds starting at 2.00pm.

Attendance of the event has been restricted to Members of Parliament, staff of Parliament and only a few selected persons, following guidelines put in place to prevent the spread of Ebola.

The event will be broadcast on selected radio and TV stations, as well as online outlets.

The latest SONA comes at the time when government is thinking of pouring more money into the Parish Development Model [PDM], an initiative launched in February 2022, to help 3.5 million households in the country to move from subsistence to the money economy.
