MP Nebanda distributes maize seeds to farmers

BUTALEJA- The Butaleja district Woman Member of Parliament, Florence Nebanda has started to distribute 2.5 tonnes of maize seeds to farmers in her constituency.

Nebanda told this reporter that seeds that were given to members of Parliament [MPs] by the National Agriculture Advisory Services [NAADS] as part of the initiative to alleviate household poverty.

She said most of the seeds would go to the youth and women groups in the various sub-counties in Butaleja district.

“Being a rainy season, let’s help our people to plant both cash and food crops to ensure food security but also cash crops will help the farmers earn money,” Nebanda said.

The MP urged the farmers to ensure that they plant the seeds given to them, saying apart from ensuring food security, the farmers through farming can fight household poverty.

“They should utilize these rains very well by planting these seeds so that we can have food in our families because a family without food is a family with endless problems,” she said in her message.

Meanwhile, majority of the beneficiaries commended MP Nebanda for giving them seeds, saying seed dealers have raised the price of the planting materials.

“We appreciate the efforts of MP Nebanda to get us these seeds. We are going to plant and we hope the yields will be good since the seeds are treated,” one of the farmers said.
