Minister urges women to embrace digitalisation
KIKUUBE-The State Minister for Gender and Culture, Peace Regis Mutuzi has advised women in Bunyoro Sub-region to embrace digitalisation, saying it is an important ingredient for socio-economic transformation.
The minister who was the chief guest at the celebration of the belated International Women’s Day for Kikuube district at Buhimba secondary school in Buhimba Town Council, urged women to be innovative and use technology in their work.
Mutuuzo said by embracing technology, women will be able start small-scale businesses and improve their household incomes but also attain financial freedom.
“If you embrace digitalisation, you will be able to market your agricultural produce and handcraft within and outside Uganda,” she said on Friday.
She also called on leaders in the region to mobilise women to embrace government programmes such as the Parish Development Model [PDM], Emyooga Programme and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme [UWEP] to fight poverty.
The minister said that several women have not taken advantage of the programmes meant to create jobs and wealth in the country.
The Kikuube district Woman Member of Parliament, Florence Natumanya urged government to put in place measures for improving health service delivery in the district.
“Kikuube district grapples with challenges such as inadequate staffing, lack of an ambulance among others, which affect the productivity of women in the district,” she said.
She also said the bad state of the roads in the area also affects women in the district as they find it hard to transport their agricultural produce to the market.
Julius Ahuura, the board chairman of Buhimba Secondary School urged government to support women village saving groups, saying it will help boost their small business, but also called for tractors to be given to the women if they are to move a way from subsistence farming.
