Lira City launches disbursement of PDM funds to beneficiaries

LIRA – Lira City has launched the disbursement of funds worth Shs 3.3 billion to the beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model [PDM] to help them engage in money commercial production, especially in the agricultural value chain.

The resident city commissioner, Lawrence Egole launched the disbursement of the funds on Monday at the Mayor`s Gardens where a total of 277 received the money.

Egole said the total number of the beneficiaries was 3,300 because the government had released through PDM secretariat Shs 3.3bln but everybody will not receive as easily planned.

“This is a continuous process. As we sit here now, there is work going on to have others included in the 277,” he said.

“We want that by the end of this month, everybody would have received their money. That is why it is a continuous process,” Egole added.

He said they will continue supporting the programme targeting 3.5 million households still trapped in the subsistence economy so that they can move into the money economy.

The development brings the total number of districts which launched the disbursement of the funds in the Lango Sub-region to two including Lira City.

They include Amolatar with Shs 4bln released for 81 PDM SACCOs, Dokolo Shs 3.65bln released for 71 PDM SACCOs and now Lira City Shs 3.3bln targeting 39 PDM SACCOs.

The beneficiaries of the funds are expected to engage in enterprises such as coffee growing, piggery, poultry keeping, fish farming, and others.
