Kampala charity donates medical supplies to Soroti hospital
SOROTI-Soroti Regional Referral Hospital has received a donation of medical supplies from Salaam Charity Foundation Uganda based in Kampala.
The medical items worth Shs 20 million were handed over to the hospital last Friday as part of the drive to help improve health services at the hospital.
Among the items donated were wheelchairs, mattresses, cotton wool, metallic walker sticks, masks, surgical gloves and sanitisers.
While receiving the supplies, Dr. David Omwoya, the hospital principal administrator said they would put items to good use.
He said the hospital has inadequate wheelchairs and cannot serve the population efficiently.
“Whatever we receive is never enough for our population at the hospital, “Omwoya said.
Other health centres like Atirir Health Centre IV, Aokot Health Centre III others also received medical supplies to improve service delivery.
Haruna Mubira, general manager Salaam Charity Foundation said they made the donation to improve service delivery at the health facilities.
Grace Epaku, the principal nursing officer at the hospital applauded the charity organisation, saying they will help in serving the increasing number of patients.
She noted that some of the items like mattresses will benefit the paediatric ward since some of the children share beds.
“We have a shortage of wheelchairs and we as the hospital staff are happy to receive this kind of support,” Epaku said.
Meanwhile, David Agwanyi, secretary health and education officer appealed to the staff of that hospital to take good care of the items.
“Handle these items with care and let them serve the rightful purpose,” Agwanyi said.
