Kalaki schools get Shs 200mln facelift

KALAKI-Over Shs 200 million has been injected to support poor primary schools in Kalaki district courtesy of Safe Child and Community Support Organisation, a non-governmental organisation in Uganda partnering with Germany Circle of Friends Charity.

The schools that have benefited from the support include Ousia, Apapai, Akolodong, and Lwala where there has been the renovation of classroom blocks, installation of water tanks and provision of desks.

Moses Ambrose Obiro, the executive director and founder of Safe Child and Community Organisation said the targeted schools were in poor conditions as members of the community were unable to raise money to rehabilitate them.

According to Obiro, Ousia rand Akolodong primary schools received water tanks to store 10,000 litres of water. Akolodong and Ousia primary schools as well as Lwala Girls’ Primary School received 25 desks each while Apapai Primary School received 30.

Obiro also said they have also extended aid to 46 vulnerable and orphaned children in schools, 1,350 babies, widows, including providing clothes and food to needy community members annually.

“We decided to extend our assistance to these schools due to poor performance and the high number of orphans and vulnerable children,” Obiro said.

Francis Egwayu, the headteacher Apapai Primary School appreciated the support from the organisation, saying it will improve learners’ performance and reduce absenteeism in the school.

“We have been using cow dung in our classrooms. Our children will now be safe from jiggers and attendance will be improved,” he said.

Egwayu said to appreciate Safe Child and Community Support Organisation, the community has taken an initiative to take care of the workers at the school by providing welfare and water.

He urged community members to suggest ideas that can help the administrators to manage the school better.

Meanwhile, Julius Odeke, the communications officer Kalaki district applauded Safe Child and Community Support Organisation for supplementing government programmes in the district.

Targeting to treat 10,600 patients, Safe Child and Community Support Organisation is also conducting a health camp from January 10-12, 2023, with testing and treatment of various diseases being done at Apapai health III in Apapai Sub-county.
