ICA to hold Extraordinary General Assembly on June 28

KAMPALA – The International Cooperative Alliance [ICA] will hold Extraordinary General Assembly in Brussels, Belgium on June 28, 2023, according to its President Ariel Guarco.

“In accordance with Article 22 of the Articles of Association and Article 29 of the Bylaws, we have the pleasure to invite you to a meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly of the ICA which will be held on 28 June 2023…before the notary Isabelle Raes,” says Guarco.

According to Guarco, there are 20 items on the agenda of the meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly. They include opening of the Extraordinary General Assembly; appointment of the bureau; approval of the agenda; approval of the minutes of the meeting of the General Assembly of 20 June 2022; President’s report; activity report 2022.

On the agenda also is modification of the Articles of Association of the ICA – change of the name of the ICA to “International Cooperative Alliance”, abbreviated “ICA”, and consequently modification of Article 1 of the Articles of Association; approval and adoption of a new coordinated text of the Articles of Association, including the amendment of the purpose and object; entry into force of the new and coordinated text of the Articles of Association.

Further, the agenda has: delegation of powers to complete the required administrative and publication formalities related to the adoption of the new Articles of Association; approval and adoption of the new Internal Rules of the ICA General Assembly; election of the sectoral organisation representatives; ratification of the Vice-Presidents [Americas].

There will also be confirmation of the ICA Board, and approval of the annual accounts for the financial year closing on December 31, 2022; approval of the budget for the financial year closing on December 31, 2023; and ratification of the Regional Rules.

The 2023 ICA General Assembly will take place as convened annually in accordance with Belgian law without an international conference held in conjunction.

The General Assembly is the highest authority of the ICA and the voters are representatives appointed by ICA full member organisations.

As of May 24, 20223, ICA has 316 member organisations of which 274 are full members and 42 are Associate Members from 106 countries.

The General Assembly will be held only a few days before the celebration of the 2023 International Day of Cooperatives on July 1, 2023.
