Govt gives Bunyoro SACCO tractors
MASINDI-Government through the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and Fisheries [MAAIF] has given three tractors to Abafumambogo Clan SACCO in Bunyoro Sub-region to boost agricultural mechanisation.
The handover of the tractors last Friday was attended by Emmy Nagabirano, the resident district commissioner[RDC] Masindi, Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV chairperson and Ronald Businge Kyomuhendo, the mayor Masindi Municipality.
The received tractors were among eight tractors pledged last year by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
Nabbanja made the pledge while speaking as a chief guest at the Annual General Meeting [AGM] for the members of Abafumambogo clan SACCO in Bunyoro region held in Kyamujwaara Cell, Nyangahya division, Masindi district.
She said each of the eight districts in Bunyoro would get a tractor that would belong to the clan members in the district.
The districts include Kakumiro, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kikuube, Hoima, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, and Masindi.
Nabbanja also pledged Shs 55 million towards the Abafumambogo Clan SACCO to enable members to access loans to boost their businesses.
Nabbanja who is also a member of Abafumambogo clan said the funds should benefit all the members of the SACCO.
She hailed the SACCO leadership in the Sub-region led by Godfrey Musindi for uniting the clan members and forming a SACCO.
She further said it is in line with the NRM government’s agenda of fighting poverty in the country.
The Abafumambogo Clan SACCO comprises more than 300 active members in the different districts of Bunyoro.
Handing over the tractors, Byaruhanga asked the beneficiaries to use the tractors for the benefit of all members.
RDC Nagabirano called upon the members to use the tractors to boost food security in the region.
Kyomuhendo hailed Nabbanja for fulfilling her promise, noting that the tractors will boost agricultural production, hence improving the welfare of households.
Musindi the SACCO chairperson noted that they are going to use the tractors to boost farming amongst the members.
“Our vision is to start doing farming on a large scale as members. We are planning many things such that we can grow and become a model SACCO,” he explained.
Musindi said that the tractors are going to be distributed in the districts of Masindi, Kagadi, and Kakumiro, adding that they are still demanding more five tractors.
MAAIF also gave out one tractor to Job Kaheeru a prominent farmer in Pakanyi Sub-county in Masindi district which also will be accessed by other farmers at a subsidised cost.
