Govt donates tractor to Kasese farmers

KASESE-Farmers subscribing to Bukonzo County Association for Development in Mpondwe town council, Kasese district are excited after receiving a tractor from government to boost their agricultural production through mechanisation.

While handing over the tractor to the beneficiaries, the state minister for National Guidance, Godfrey Kabyanga appealed to farmers to put the tractor to good use.

He said the tractor would help the farmers boost their production and as well help them to earn extra income by hiring it to other farmers in the area.

“It is not easy for a farmer or a group of farmers to buy their own tractor because it is very expensive, but when you get a chance of having one, you need to use it effectively,” he said.

Kabyanga explained that mechanised agriculture is the way to go since it eases work for farmers and boosts production.

He appealed to farmers and farmer groups who have the capacity to buy their own tractors to do so and enjoy the benefits of having their own.

“When I heard my people from Kasese who are good at farming cry for a tractor, I engaged my colleagues from the Ministry of Agriculture who accepted to give me this tractor. Appreciation goes to the Ministry of Agriculture for their continued support to the farmers in the country,” he said.

He urged farmers to focus on hard work and avoid political leaders who try to divert them.

The chairperson of Bukonzo County Association for Development, Jackson Kapamba commended the Ministry of Agriculture for the support and encouraged his colleagues to use the tractor effectively.

“We have always been facing the challenge of accessing a tractor for hire at a cheaper price. We are thankful that our minister [Kabyanga] has lobbied for us this tractor. We are really grateful,” he said.

The LCI chairperson River Mpondwe Cell, Hassan Baluku urged farmers to use the opportunity of the tractor to improve their household incomes.
