Global Innovation Coop Summit 2023 confirmed

MONTREAL, September 12, 2023 – Cooperatives Europe is excited to participate in the Global Innovation Coop Summit [GICS] 2023 is scheduled to take place from September 27-29 in Montreal, Canada, organisers say.

The GICS, established in 2020, has become a vital platform for cooperative and mutual leaders and partners to share, exchange, learn, and build a more inclusive plural economy.

The summit brings together the cooperative and mutualist movement, inspiring innovation and paving the way for the implementation of new ideas. By providing a neutral space for cooperatives and mutuals to share successes and aid each other’s growth, GICS aims to inspire, promote, and foster the development of cooperative and mutual enterprises worldwide.

The inaugural in-person event was held in Paris at the premises of La Fédération Nationale du Crédit Agricole from September 26 – 27, 2022.

The 2023 conference will be hosted at the Institut international des coopératives, Alphonse-et-Dorimène-Desjardins, HEC Montréal. The focus will be on turning the lessons from Paris into action with the theme: “Act Now for a circular and digital future, the cooperators way.”

All cooperatives, mutuals, academics, and anyone with an interest in the cooperative business model are free to attend the transformative event shaping the future of cooperatives, driving innovation and sustainable growth.

The organisers  say: ‘In Paris 2022, cooperatives said: We want to act now to lead, fight climate change and maximize the benefits of an innovative and digital society. In Montreal we are giving cooperatives the tools they need to take action, and the space to enable the cooperation among cooperatives needed to achieve goals.”

Participants attending this year’s event will engage in workshops that will serve as the building blocks for the GICS community of practice, and will continue sharing innovative ideas throughout the years. “This community of practice will be open to cooperatives, mutuals, academics and anyone who is interested in the cooperative business model.”

Some of the speakers lined up for the event this year are: Paul Hazen, Executive Director, Overseas Cooperative Development Council, Georges Ki-Zerbo, Director of World Health Organisation Liaison Office to the African Union and UN-ECA, and Mary Nirlungayuk, Secretary and Members Relations, Arctic Cooperatives Limited.
