KAMPALA, July 25, 2026 — The Federation of Uganda Employers [ FUE ] and the Uganda Cooperative Alliance Limited [UCA] have agreed to deepen collaboration aimed at strengthening cooperative enterprises, improving leadership capacity, and promoting sustainable economic development in Uganda.
The commitment was reached during a recent meeting held on June 25, 2026, at UCA headquarters in Kampala, where representatives from both institutions discussed areas of mutual cooperation and ways to build synergies between employers and cooperatives.
The discussions focused on providing customised business development services, including specialised training for employers and cooperative leaders, advocacy, labour law compliance, legal advisory services, leadership development, workplace policies, capacity building, and improving employer-employee relations.
Both institutions noted that their mandates are closely linked and agreed that aligning cooperative development initiatives with employer priorities would help accelerate socio-economic growth while strengthening Uganda’s cooperative movement.
During the engagement, FUE Acting Chief Executive Officer Francis Katende requested UCA to involve the employers’ body in its major programmes and projects to enable FUE to support cooperatives in areas such as governance, management, and leadership development.
Responding to the request, UCA General Secretary Ivan Asiimwe affirmed the commitment to partnership, saying: “Going forward, FUE will be part and parcel of UCA’s activities.”
The collaboration is expected to create opportunities for joint programmes that enhance productivity, promote decent work, and support the growth of sustainable cooperative enterprises across Uganda.
The partnership comes at a time when cooperatives continue to play a significant role in mobilising communities, expanding access to financial and business services, and supporting livelihoods through collective enterprise.
The two organisations pledged to continue exploring practical interventions that address challenges affecting employers and cooperatives while contributing to Uganda’s broader development agenda.
