Busia elderly persons SACCO has become the first elderly organization countywide to be cleared to operate since the passing of the older persons Act 2013.
The national NRM chairperson elder person’s league also central executive committee members (SEC) Mafabi Dominic Gidudu officiated at the launching on behalf of President Yoweri Museveni.
Though the membership of the elderly persons SACCO is open to all older persons, their creation is being spearheaded by the NRM elders league.
Speaking at the launch Gidudu held at elders office in Busia, Gidudu handed over a permanent certificate number P9017/RCS saying elderly have been triggered on elderly people to get involved in the socio-economic transformation within their homesteads.
An elderly person should have at least 30 plants of mangoes, oranges and cashews nuts so that they can earn up to shillings 7.5 million per year. He encouraged the elderly to use cooperatives in a productive way for their own good.
” There will be a joint a communal launching for all the 33 SACCOs in the region by President Yoweri Museveni on December 21 in Soroti at the juice factory,” he said.
Peter Erimu the chairperson elder league eastern region appealed to the elderly to change from fighting the opposition to fighting conditions.
Be productive by thinking about things that improve living conditions by getting ideas and putting them into practice.
” Elders don’t engage in useless arguments and politics let’s use the cooperatives for development,”
Erimu said, adding young people should learn from the elders, work hard and change the country. Invite the president when you have something to Show him and he will come.
Reverand Apuuli Brown the coordinator NRM league western region also volunteer at state house appealed to older persons to work collectively noting one is going to push forward them without their own input.
Besides the shillings 25000 stipends given to older persons in the selected district, Apuuli asked them to embrace cooperatives and operation wealth creation to fight poverty.
He offered to give capacity building to the new older persons SACCO. Sacharia Wanyama the chairperson Busia district elderly persons Sacco said, they have 6400 members. He thanked the president for creating favorable conditions for all people in the country to create wealth.
