CIC Africa Uganda-Ten Years of Keeping Our Word

At CIC, we are proud of the past 10 years. But we are even more excited about the next decade—one in which cooperative insurance becomes a cornerstone of sustainable development in Uganda and beyond

KAMPALA, July 5, 2025 — As we celebrate the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, the global call to recognise cooperatives as drivers of inclusive and sustainable solutions for a better world could not be timelier. At CIC Africa Life Assurance Ltd, we understand this mandate deeply—not as an abstract principle, but as a lived reality that defines our purpose every single day.

The cooperative model is not just a business structure. It is a philosophy grounded in people, trust, and collective progress. For over a decade now, CIC Insurance Uganda has demonstrated that insurance can be more than a financial product; it can be a lifeline—especially when delivered with empathy, equity, and a long-term commitment to transformation.

At CIC, our mission has been clear: to protect and empower individuals and families across Uganda, particularly those historically excluded from formal financial systems. Through our partnerships with cooperatives, microfinance institutions, and banks, we have tailored life assurance solutions that speak directly to the needs of ordinary Ugandans—from boda-boda riders and farmers to market vendors and salaried workers.

What makes our approach different is the cooperative DNA embedded in our company’s structure and strategy. Our clients are not just policyholders; they are part of a wider ecosystem that values shared prosperity. We don’t just underwrite risk—we underwrite dignity, resilience, and hope.

The past ten years have shown us that when people trust a system that is built for them and with them, they respond with loyalty and commitment. That trust has fueled our growth and deepened our responsibility. It is a reminder that insurance is not just about paying claims; it’s about keeping promises—and that’s something CIC has done faithfully.

As we move into the International Year of Cooperatives, we reaffirm our dedication to creating life assurance solutions that are inclusive, affordable, and sustainable. We are not just building a portfolio—we are building futures.

Together, we can drive meaningful impact. Together, we can insure lives—not just with policies, but with purpose.

When CIC Group began its operations in 2014 through it’s subsidiary CIC Africa Uganda Limited, we carried with us a vision: to deliver insurance solutions that embody the spirit of cooperation, resilience, and trust. Today, as we mark a decade of service and look ahead to the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, that vision has matured into a mission deeply rooted in the communities we serve.

Our story is one of commitment. Over the past ten years, we’ve grown from a promising entrant into Uganda’s insurance industry to a trusted partner for thousands of individuals, businesses, and cooperatives. We have done so not through ambition alone, but through a constant dedication to our founding principle—“Keeping Our Word.”

The theme of the upcoming International Day of Cooperatives—“Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World”—speaks directly to our journey. As a cooperative insurance company, CIC does not measure success by profits alone. We measure it by protection extended, livelihoods restored, and businesses kept afloat during life’s most difficult moments.

Through innovative products tailored to our market, such as agricultural insurance for farmers, motor and asset covers for SMEs, and risk solutions for SACCOs and cooperatives, we’ve provided more than just coverage—we’ve provided confidence. In doing so, we’ve enabled people to take risks, to grow, and to dream bigger.

But more than that, we have remained anchored in a business model that shares value with its stakeholders. This cooperative ethos—putting people before profit—is what makes our solutions truly sustainable. It is also what makes our growth more meaningful.

As Uganda continues to develop and its insurance needs evolve, we are ready. Ready to partner, ready to adapt, and ready to lead. We see the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives as a moment not just to celebrate, but to renew our responsibility to do business the right way—for the benefit of people, planet, and posterity.

At CIC, we are proud of the past 10 years. But we are even more excited about the next decade—one in which cooperative insurance becomes a cornerstone of sustainable development in Uganda and beyond.

We are CIC.  And we will proudly keep our word.
