CHF Canada recognised again as a top employer

OTTAWA, March 22, 2024 – The Cooperative Housing Federation of Canada [CHF Canada] has been recognised for a fourth straight year as a top employer in the National Capital Region.

“The leading employers in the National Capital Region are known for being innovative and focusing on continuous improvement,” said Richard Yerema, executive director of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “So it’s refreshing to see that same approach applies to their HR programmes, policies and employee benefits.”

“This award is dedicated to our amazing staff and board, who together make sure that CHF Canada is an excellent place to work,” said CHF Canada Executive Director Tim Ross. “Co-operatives are people-centred businesses. We are pleased to foster a work environment that attracts and retains the talented staff we need to serve our members well.”

CHF Canada fosters a workplace where employees experience a strong sense of shared purpose with a commitment to equity, integrity, wellness and achieving results for members. This includes tangible things like competitive salary and benefits, equity and transparency in pay, contribution to retirement security, professional development and a supportive work environment.

In support of other workers in the co-op housing sector, CHF Canada members passed a resolution in 2023 recognising the vital role of property management staff.  It underlined the importance of creating positive work environments and providing education [such as CHF Canada’s Co-op Managers Conference, the new Coop Housing Management Accreditation and resources such as the Quality Co-op Employer Charter].

First published in 2006, the National Capital Region’s Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes employers in the Ottawa-Gatineau area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
