Casablanca: Theater of dreams for 2021-22 TotalEnergies Champions League final
CASABLANCA– Casablanca, which will host the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final on Monday night is one of Morocco’s major cities, the economic capital of the Kingdom and the third largest city in Africa in terms of population after Lagos and Cairo.
Before the discovery of a white house [Casa Branca], Casablanca was known as Anfa before the Portuguese called it Casablanca in the 16th century and Casa by the Moroccans.
In economic and financial matters, the Casablanca Stock Exchange (BVC) is ranked third in Africa after Johannesburg and Cairo and the first destination for Moroccan and foreign investors. Sixty percent of industrial and economic fabrics are based in Casablanca.
City and Infrastructure
Casablanca is also the industrial center par excellence, home to several industries (food, aviation, electronics, service, construction, public works, tourism).
The beautiful city is also a tourist destination par excellence thanks in particular to the Mohammed V Complex, the official stadium of Raja Club Athletic (RCA) and Wydad Athletic Club (WAC), the two rival clubs of the economic capital.
Inaugurated on March 6, 1955, the Mohammed V Complex has hosted several major matches and tournaments, including the Mediterranean Games and the Francophonie Games in addition to the Mohammed V Cup and Hassan II Cup.
This Stadium, whose architecture was designed by Achel Denklatur, a native of Casablanca, initially included side bleachers in addition to the grandstand.
Its renovation in 1983 on the sidelines of the organization in Morocco of the Mediterranean Games made it possible to introduce the athletics track and private boxes.
Football in Casablanca
On the historical side, the Mohammed V Complex has hosted major matches including that of Morocco against Spain counting for the qualifications for the 1962 World Cup.
It also hosted the play-off matches for the 1994 and 1998 World Cup as well as the two Cup finals of African Cup-winning clubs between Raja Club Athletic and Algerian club Oran in 1989 and WAC and Sudanese Hilal in 1992.
The stadium also hosted major athletics competitions in which Nawal El Moutawakel, Said Aouita, Fatema Aouam and Khalid Sekkah stood out.
Monday, May 30 at 8pm local time, this will be the meeting place for continental football and will bring its great moments of history to life in Casablanca during the Al Ahly-WAC final.
This is a tie long awaited by fans of this competition, the most prestigious on the international competition calendar.
