Bunyoro Kingdom supporting individuals and companies to get oil opportunities

HOIMA – Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom (BKK) in partnership with Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) and Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) has registered 136 companies on the National Suppliers Database (NSD) and National Oil and Gas Talent Register (NOGTR).

According to Francis Mugerwa, the Public Relations Officer of Bunyoro Kingdom, the kingdom teamed with PAU and UNOC in mobilizing and registering individuals and companies in Hoima City and Hoima district who are interested in taking up oil and gas opportunities.

“116 individuals registered on the National Talent Register while 20 companies registered on the National supplier database,” he explained.

According to Mugerwa, registration was intended to expose individuals and companies to jobs and contracts in the oil and gas sector.

It is a requirement for each company seeking contracts in the oil sector to be registered with the National supplier database of PAU.

Mugerwa says, the registration is one of the interventions by BKK to support Kingdom subjects to meet requirements to accessing opportunities in the oil industry.

He added that the Kingdom administration is implementing a directive by His Royal Majesty Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom to lay strategies of making oil a blessing to his people.

“The demand for direct oil opportunities to the Kingdom subjects was presented by the Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga to the Board members of UNOC and PAU who paid a courtesy call on him between October to December last year,” he added.

He said the kingdom is pleased that the proposals have started being implemented with registration of individuals and companies on the National Supplier Database and Talent Register which kicked off on Monday 7th – 11th March 2022 at the kingdom offices.

A similar registration exercise was conducted at Nyamasoga Trading Center in Hoima district on 12th March 2022.

The registration exercise will be also extended to Masindi district in the next few weeks.

Mugerwa adds that the kingdom will continue working with PAU and UNOC to extend a similar registration exercises in other parts of Bunyoro.

The National Suppliers’ Database (NSD) is an online platform for registering all potential suppliers of Uganda’s oil and gas sector and a tool for regulating the procurement of goods and services in the sector.

It was put in place in 2017 and has continued to evolve over time.

For one to be registered, he or she has must be with proof of legal status and name, submission of an authentic and valid Certificate of Incorporation and/or registration.

One is also supposed to submit authentic, valid, and up-to-date information on the shareholding and management of the company or entity, good market conduct, good liquidity status, proof of compliance with tax and social security requirements, valid banker’s reference letter, proof of nationality, tax registration, expertise, and a report of good conduct by the Police for applications of the natural persons among others.

For many years, businessmen and company owners from Bunyoro Kingdom have been lacking this information.

They have been complaining that they have not been supported to access it.

“This is an opportunity for us also to benefit from the oil opportunities,” explained some the businessmen who spoke to theCooperator.
