2,000 patients in Otuke benefit from medical camp

OTUKE-At least 2,000 patients with different sicknesses were treated in Otuke district during a free medical camp organised recently by the area MP, Paul Omara.

The camp held in five health facilities attracted both men and women patients, with the men discovered to be having herniae, and hydrocele among others. The treatment took place in health centres of Alango, Barocok, Okwongo, Okwang and Barjobi.

According to the local leaders, the health facilities don’t have enough medical equipment to carry out surgeries. Patients that need surgeries are referred to Orum Health Centre IV which acts as a district referral hospital.

The health centres in the district include Olilim, Ogwete, Atanggwata, Adwari, Aliwang, Alango, Barocok, Okwongo, Barjobi and Okwang among others.

MP Omara commended the district health officer, Dr Robert Oremo and the in-charge Orum Health Centre IV, Dr James Olum for their commendable work.

“I am so happy to see that everybody who was operated on has recovered without any problem,” Omara said on Sunday.

“This is the reason why we need to strengthen health services in our district and the country for all citizens,” he added.

He said the turn-up for a week medical camp has been so overwhelming and the doctors had been working on 10 patients daily.

Omara said the government has also earmarked Shs 1.2 billion for the upgrade of Barjobi Health Centre III in Okwang Sub-county, to a health centre four status.

Besides the construction and upgrading of the facility, 49 health workers will be recruited and deployed to the health facilities, which will reduce the shortage of staff and boost service delivery, according to Omara.

The district LC5 chairperson, Francis Abola applauded MP Omara for organising the free medical camp, saying some of the MPs in the district should do the same.
