100 PDM beneficiaries in Soroti City receive funds for investment

SOROTI, June 14, 2025 –– At least 100 more beneficiaries from Moruapesur Ward in Soroti City East Division have received funding through the Parish Development Model [PDM], aimed at lifting households out of poverty.

During the official launch of the fund disbursements recently, Paul Eyabu, the Commercial Officer for Soroti City East Division, emphasised the importance of prioritising savings and investing wisely to ensure that beneficiaries are able to repay the funds with ease.

Eyabu cautioned that some recipients misuse the funds or channel them into unproductive ventures, urging all beneficiaries to carefully plan their use of the Shs 1 million received by each beneficiary.

“Some of you may be tempted to deviate from your original plans. Please make good use of this money,” Eyabu sid, advising beneficiaries to invest in enterprises like coffee, piggery, poultry, fish farming, and dairy farming among others.

He strongly warned against using the funds for betting, frivolous spending, or witchcraft, stressing that such misuse would undermine the purpose of the programme.

One of the beneficiaries, Losira Amongin, expressed optimism that the funds would help her household overcome poverty.

“My plan is to rear poultry, and this money will enable me to do just that,” Amongin said.

Another recipient, Simon Peter Onyangatum, expressed gratitude to the government for empowering local livelihoods through the Parish Development Model.

The Chairperson of the Moruapesur PDM SACCO, Julius Adanu Ademu, encouraged all recipients to invest in viable income-generating projects such as poultry farming, sheep rearing, and cattle keeping to ensure long-term benefits.

Meanwhile, James Chemutai Small, Acting Resident City Commissioner, called on the beneficiaries to remain focused and use the funds effectively to combat household poverty and improve their standards of living.

He also cautioned beneficiaries to beware of politicians who might mislead them into believing the funds are political handouts intended to win votes.

“Let no politician deceive you — this money is not for politics. It is meant to fight poverty in your households,” Chemutai said.

Lunched in 2022, the PDM is a Ugandan government strategy focused on improving household incomes and overall quality of life by organising and delivering public and private sector interventions at the parish level. It’s essentially a “last mile” approach to service delivery, aiming to move Ugandans from subsistence living to a money economy.
