Parents urged to nurture and educate their children

FORT PORTAL-The Member of Parliament representing Central division, Fort Portal city, Alex Ruhunda has advised parents to nurture their children well in order for them to have a better future.

Ruhunda said parents should look at their children in the best way possible if they want the youngsters to be important people in future.

While speaking during the inauguration of Christ Aid Secondary School in Kicuna Kabarole district, Ruhunda said some parents have neglected their family responsibilities.

“Parents should know that they are responsible for the upbringing of their children. It is really shocking that parents still wait for leaders to tell them to look after their children and yet it is their responsibility,” he said.

He said education is one of the most valuable tools a parent can give to his child, but he said some parents have dened their children a right to education by not taking them to school.

“Lay a good foundation for your children by ensuring that they get good education despite the economic challenges. I know we are all going through a lot because of the current economic situation but as parents we need to try our best and ensure our children get the best,” he said.

Ruhunda said due to the economic situation in the country, some children may resort to doing evil things to get money. He urged parents to keep their children busy to prevent them from doing bad acts.

He said there are many skills children can venture in case formal education becomes expensive for parents.

The Kabarole district chairperson LCV, Richard Rwabuhinga called upon Christ Aid international, the proprietors of Christ Aid Secondary School to think about starting up a vocational school for skilling the youth.

“You have invested in primary and secondary education and now what is remaining is where do these children go after completing those levels? You need to also think of job creation through skilling the youth,” Rwabuhinga said.

The executive director of Christ Aid International, Pr. Bruce Van Dusseldorp asked children to use the opportunity of a secondary school by studying hard to become important people in future.

“Education is the key to success, I therefore urge you to study hard to achieve your future goals. As Christ Aid International, we are ready to support you,” he said.

He urged teachers to impart good morals to the learners.

“Teachers, you need to know that whatever you are doing is shaping the future of Ugandan citizens. You, therefore, need to be extemporary to them because they learn from your actions,” he said.

The country director Christ Aid International, Grace Muhumuza Karungi said they would establish a vocational school in the area.

“As Christ Aid International, we are focusing on helping the needy and ensuring that our children get quality education. Today we have witnessed the inauguration of a secondary school, we recently opened up a grandma’s village where they are taking care of old women who don’t have where to stay,” she said.
