WSACCO ready to spend heavily on supplies

KAMPALA-Uganda’s leading SACCO-Wazalendo SACCO [ WSACCO ] is ready to spend more money on services and tangible goods if were are to go by a running newspaper advert shared by its CEO Col. Freddy Joseph Onata.

According to the advert calling for bids, WSACCO, needs several services such as printing, art and design, media and advertising, cleaning services, air ticketing, repair of motor vehicles, valuation services, and insurance among others.

The SACCO belonging to officers and officials of Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF]also needs to procure items such as assorted stationery, motor vehicles, tyres, motorcycles, security equipment, petroleum products, computers, generators, and solar equipment among others.

However, interested suppliers are required to pay a non-refundable of Shs 100, 000 for each item bid in order to participate in the process that began on August 30, 2022, and ends on December 16, 2022.

Potential suppliers are also required to among others, present a certificate of registration, valid VAT registration, valid income tax clearance certificate, current valid trading license, and evidence of financial capacity.

The bid closing date closes on November 18, 2022, while the evaluation process is slated for November 28, 2022.

Meanwhile, according to the chairman board of directors, Maj Gen. Sam Kavuma, since its establishment in 2005, WSACCO has been able to grow membership, mobilise savings, offer affordable credit services, expand branch network employ technology, among others initiatives which have enabled the SACCO to attend to the welfare of its members.

“I started as an activist of WSACCO at a small level and I have been mobilizing until now when I have become a leader. We have done our best to ensure that our members access financial services. My biggest concern now is assessing the impact of the 1.95 trillion that has been given to the members in form of loans on their welfare,” Kavuma said.

Gen Kavuma made the remarks recently while handing over seven motorcycles to the Chieftaincy of Political Commissariat [CPC] to support efforts to monitor the impact of the credit facilities given to members across the country.

According to the Director Operations, William Atalyeba, WSACCO’s membership now stands at over 90, 000.

WSACCO recently launched Gulu City branch, which became its seventh cash operating branch and the fourth branch to be established outside the military barracks premises. The other three are Entebbe, Kampala and Moroto branches.

Onata noted that opening of Gulu city branch demonstrated the intent to continue improving the lives of soldiers and ensuring member’s convenience and satisfaction.

He said WSACCO would help train upcoming SACCOs in the country on best practices of management.

“Under the Cooperative Societies Principle of Cooperation among Co-operators, Wazalendo SACCO shall offer free training to upcoming SACCOs and allow them come to benchmark for best practices from WSACCO as well as sharing experiences at no cost,” he said.
