Western region SACCO leaders set to meet in Kabale for annual convention
UCSCU has requested participants to confirm attendance by June 20, 2026 to enable planning and preparations
KAMPALA, June18, 2026 — The Uganda Cooperative Savings and Credit Union Limited [UCSCU] will convene the 5th Annual Western Region SACCO Convention later this month where leaders will seek strategies to strengthen resilience, innovation and member-focused growth across the cooperative financial sector.
The convention is scheduled for June 24, 2026 at White Horse Inn, Kabale Municipality and will bring together SACCO board members, chief executive officers, general managers, senior managers, supervisory boards and vetting committee members from the Kigezi, Ankole and Midwestern sub-regions.
According to an invitation issued by UCSCU Chief Executive Officer Sylivester Ndiroramukama, the annual gathering has evolved into a key forum for learning, networking and policy dialogue among SACCO leaders and stakeholders over the past five years.
The convention will be held under the theme, “The Future-ready SACCO: Resilient, Innovative, and Member-Centred.”
In the invitation letter dated May 30, 2026, Ndiroramukama said the growing participation of Western Region SACCOs in regional and national cooperative activities reflected the region’s increasing contribution to the sustainability of UCSCU and Uganda’s wider cooperative movement.
“As SACCOs operate in an environment characterised by rapid technological change, evolving member expectations, emerging risks, regulatory developments and increasing competition within the financial sector, there is a need to prepare institutions to remain relevant, resilient and responsive to member needs,” he said.
He added that the convention would provide stakeholders with an opportunity to assess emerging challenges and identify practical approaches to building stronger and future-ready institutions.
Among the convention’s objectives are promoting strategic thinking for resilient and sustainable SACCO growth, encouraging the adoption of innovation and technology in service delivery, strengthening member-centred governance and improving institutional performance.
Organisers also expect the event to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among SACCO leaders, stakeholders and development partners to advance the cooperative movement.
Expected outcomes include enhanced understanding of trends shaping the SACCO sector, increased uptake of innovative approaches and the development of actionable recommendations aimed at accelerating SACCO growth in Western Uganda.
Participants are required to contribute Shs 120,000 to cater for convention materials, meals, refreshments, facilitators’ professional fees and related logistical costs.
UCSCU has requested participants to confirm attendance by June 20, 2026 to enable planning and preparations.
“We look forward to your participation and valuable contribution as we collectively explore strategies for building resilient, innovative and member-centred SACCOs for the future,” DNdiroramukama said.
