URA launches e-receipt tax campaign in Mbale City

MBALE – The Uganda Revenue Authority [URA] has launched the electronic fiscal receipting and invoicing solution [EFRIS] to ease tax collection.

EFRIS is an automated compliance process established by the URA which aims to handle the allocation and centralised tracking of all invoices and receipts by specified taxpayers in Uganda.

While speaking during the sensitisation exercise last Thursday in Mbale City, Khafa Sehuya head of tax literacy department at URA, said the system is designed to improve business and reduce the cost of compliance through improved record keeping among taxpayers.

E-receipt is a new application that allows one to safely, easily, and at no cost issue electronic tax documents.

She said the e-receipt will improve tax collection and reduce tax losses.

She appealed to business people to download e- receipt apps on their computers and smartphones to help them in paying their taxes.

Sehuya said that URA has been losing lots of money in the former manual collection system, urging all Ugandans to embrace the e-receipt system.

Juliet Nambafu, a  trader from Mbale City was excited about the system, saying it will simplify payment of taxes instead of going to the banks or giving agents.

She however complained that this digital system will not be accessed by all traders since some don’t have smartphones or computers.
