Use PDM to fight poverty, minister Magyezi urges Alebtong residents
ALEBTONG-Local Government minister, Rafael Magyezi has urged residents of Alebtong district to take advantage of the Parish Development Model [PDM] if they are to fight poverty in their households.
Launching the start of the drilling of a Shs 1.25 billion gravity water flow project in Abako Sub-county, the minister said government intends to give Shs 100mln to each parish in Uganda under the PDM towards helping 3.5 million households still in subsistence farming to the money economy.
Meanwhile, the gravity water flow project in Abako Sub-county funded by the Islamic Development Bank will run for three years, according to the Alebtong district LC5 chairperson, David Kennedy Odongo.
The project will provide access to clean and safe water to the communities of Alanyi Catholic Parish, Alanyi Trading Centre, and St Theresa Senior Secondary School, Alanyi.
Magyezi said government would continue to improve infrastructure in schools, rehabilitate roads as well as strengthen health services in the country.
“We are giving you water and Shs 100mln for every parish under PDM to enhance production and productivity, businesses and start income generating projects,” Magyezi said.
The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua lauded government for the different interventions launched to fight abject poverty and improve health systems and educational institutions.
Obua said the PDM is in line with the National Resistance Movement [NRM], adding that the programme kickstarted in the current financial year has come at the right time.
He said within the span of two years, the area [Ajuri] has received three new seed secondary schools and three health facilities.
He named the newly established seed secondary schools as; Angetta, Awei, and Adwir.
