Use PDM money to embrace commercial production, MP Alyek

KOLE – The Kole district Woman Member of Parliament, Judith Alyek has urged communities to use the Parish Development Model [PDM] funds to embrace commercial production so that they get out of poverty.

MP Alyek applauded the PDM, saying it is one of the best programmes that government has introduced in the country to help citizens fight poverty in households.

Alyek was days ago addressing residents of Kole town council on the tour of her constituency to assess the performance of the PDM so far.

The MP said a total of 54 PDM SACCOs in the district have since received the money for the different enterprise groups and individuals to borrow and develop themselves.

MP Alyek advised the residents in her district to pay back the borrowed money so that others can borrow and use it since it is a revolving fund.

PDM was launched in February 2022 with the aim to move 3.5 million households still trapped in the subsistence economy to the money economy.

The programme kicked off its implementation last year and so far parliament had appropriated Shs 1.57 trillion for all the districts, municipalities, and cities in the country, Otuke County MP, Paul Omara recently.

MP Alyek cautioned people against mismanaging the funds saying they should be directed to the enterprises the beneficiaries selected.

Government is committed to running the PDM for five years, starting with the current financial year. Each parish is lined up to receive Shs 100 million yearly to fund income generating activities, with government budgeting over Shs 1 trillion in the same period on 10,594 parishes in the country.
