Over the twelve months [May 2024–April 2025], Uganda’s coffee exports reached 7.17 million bags worth US$ 1.97 billion, up from 5.90 million bags valued at US$ 1.01 billion in the previous year [May 2023–April 2024]

KAMPALA, June 4, 2025 — Uganda’s coffee industry recorded significant growth in April 2025, with exports totaling 694,318 60-kilogramme bags valued at US$ 214.38 million, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries [MAAIF].
“This represents a 77.44 percent increase in quantity and a staggering 152.56 percent rise in value compared to April 2024,” MAAIF states in its Monthly Coffee Report April 2025.
The average export price rose to US$ 5.15 per kilo, up from US$ 3.62 per kilo in April last year, the report shows.
Key drivers of growth
The increase in the country’s coffee exports was attributed to a strong harvest in the Masaka and South Western regions, combined with elevated global coffee prices, driven by dry conditions in Brazil and Vietnam, the world’s top producers.
“Robusta coffee led the charge, with exports increasing by 104.63 percent in quantity and 187.61 percent in value. Arabica exports, while slightly down in quantity [-0.8 percent], saw a 60 percent increase in value,” the report adds.
Over the twelve months [May 2024–April 2025], Uganda’s coffee exports reached 7.17mln bags worth US$ 1.97 billion, up from 5.90mln bags valued at US$ 1.01bln in the previous year [May 2023–April 2024]. “This represents an increase of 21.70 percent and 94.64 percent in quantity and value respectively,” the report says.
Exporter and destination highlights
The top 10 exporters accounted for 68.43 percent of the total volume, with Ugacof [U] Ltd leading at 12.58 percent market share. Italy remained the largest destination, purchasing 42.02 percent of Uganda’s coffee exports, followed by Germany [11.30 percent] and Spain [7.46 percent]. Europe continued to dominate as the primary market, taking in 71 percent of total exports.
Outlook for May 2025
Coffee exports for May are projected to reach 680,000 60-kilogramme bags, as the main harvest season in Greater Masaka and the South West progresses.
Global coffee trends
Globally, coffee production for 2024/25 is forecast to reach 174.9mln bags, buoyed by increased output in Vietnam and Indonesia. However, global consumption is also on the rise, introducing potential uncertainties in supply chains.
