KAMPALA, October 17, 2025 — The Uganda Cooperative Alliance Limited (UCA) is set to hold a special Annual General Meeting [AGM] on November 4, 2025.

According to a public notice issued on October 17, 2025, by UCA General Secretary, Ivan Asiimwe, the Meeting will take place at Hotel Africana in Kampala, under the theme: “Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Livelihoods through Cooperatives for a Better World.”

Asiimwe also confirmed that elections for UCA Board Members will be conducted during the event.

This development follows a detailed report published in the latest edition of theCooperator, which reveals that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives [MTIC] had previously halted the election of a new UCA Board. The election had been scheduled to take place during the organisation’s 57th General Meeting.

“It is imperative that the elections are halted,” read a letter addressed to Robert Mpakibi, an Ex-Officio Board Member of UCA and the Commissioner for SACCOs and Financial Services at MTIC.

The Ministry further stated: “There are reports indicating that some candidates have conducted sham elections within their cooperative societies with the sole objective of qualifying for this election, thereby undermining the integrity of the process.”

Issue 58 of theCooperator magazine carries a comprehensive account of these developments. Copies are available from various vending points nationwide.
