Join SACCOs to develop saving culture, MP urges Bulambuli residents

BULAMBULI – Instead of keeping money in their houses, people should develop a saving culture by joining Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations [SACCOs].

The advice was given by the Bulambuli district Woman Member of Parliament, Eng. Irene Muloni while addressing youths in Bulambuli district early this week.

MP Muloni who is a former Minister of Energy and Mineral Development urged the locals to invest part of their money wisely if they are to improve their livelihoods.

“People are crying over the high level of poverty simply because they have a poor saving culture,” she said, urging them to join SACCOs.

“There is no way you can keep your money in the house and then you expect to develop. You develop a saving culture in order to sustain your families and foster development in your area,” she advised.

She said a poor saving culture is not good for the Ugandan economy.

She also called upon the community to engage in productive activities such as poultry keeping, and farming ,saying Mt. Elgon region has fertile soils.

“You can transform yourselves into millionaires by focusing on productive activities like commercial farming,” Muloni said, urging them to acquire new skills needed for development of their families.

“You develop a saving culture and form  SACCOs so that you can fight poverty among yourselves,” she said.
