UBOS trains PDM data collection supervisors

FORT PORTAL- Uganda Bureau of Statistics [UBOS] in partnership with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has held a training of trainers who will train and supervise others in the collection of data for the Parish Development Model [ PDM ] in Rwenzori Sub-region.

Those trained included the district officials from the departments of planning and information technology. They will later train Parish Chiefs in data collection methods. The Parish Chiefs have been given a key role in the implementation of the PDM that will cover 10,594 parishes across the country.

The training of the officials was held early this week at New Fort View Hotel in Fort Portal city.

Esther Nabwire, UBOS Senior Statistician, said the training of trainers in data collection is important because they will easily transfer the acquitted knowledge to parish chiefs who will collect data as they oversee the PDM activities.

“At the end of the day we want to ensure we have a general repository for all these indicators whether administrative or socio-economic, we need to have this data somewhere in one centre and the beauty is that everything will be digital,” Nabwire said.

She said that a management formation system application has been developed by the ICT ministry to be used in data collection.

She added that all the Parish Chiefs will use smartphones to collect all the data and submit it directly to the servers at the head office in Kampala.

The Fort Portal Resident City Commissioner [RCC], Godwin Kasigwa Angalia urged district officials to help in sensitizing the masses about PDM.

He said PDM beneficiaries would undergo financial literacy training, which he said, will empower them with skills in financial management.

“This is a digital programme because everything will be operated in a digital way. However, this programme has not killed other government programmes, they will all continue like Emyooga, youth livelihood among others,” he said.

Kasigwa appealed to the district officials in Rwenzori sub-region and the country at large to serve the people diligently.

The parish will be the epicentre of multi-sectoral community development, implementation, supervision, monitoring, and accountability.

The LC II chairperson and Parish Chiefs will be responsible for political stewardship in the implementation of the PDM in their respective parishes with support from the sub-county and district technical planning committees.
