Taxi operators in Kitgum elects new cooperative leaders at AGM

The new leaders were elected at an Annual General Meeting [AGM] held recently at Pandwong Division headquarters in Kitgum Municipality under tight security

KITGUM, October 15, 2026 — Members of the Kitgum Taxi Owners’ and Drivers’ Cooperative Society Limited [KITODCSL] have elected a new board and executive committee to steer the organisation for the next four years.

The new leaders were elected at an Annual General Meeting [AGM] held recently at Pandwong Division headquarters in Kitgum Municipality under tight security. The exercise was presided over by Charles Opoka Darwin, the Kitgum Municipal Principal Commercial Officer.

Peter Odong was re-elected as chairperson, Emmanuel Okoya as vice-chairperson, Joseph Odokonyero as treasurer, and Amos Ochora Gadaffi as secretary. Other board members elected were Charles Opoka, Nicholas Nokrach Nyeko and Morris Amone.

Members also elected the cooperative’s Supervisory Committee, with Bosco Oryem Anek as chairperson, Ssebi Rajab as secretary and Patrick Mwaka as a member.

The Vetting Committee will be led by Jamesy Opiya Raphael as chairperson, with Phillip Odong Richent as secretary and Patrick Oryema as a member.

During the AGM, members approved the cooperative’s Shs 105 million budget for the 2026/2027 financial year and ratified revised bylaws to guide the society’s operations.

Addressing members after the elections, Opoka said the newly elected leaders would serve a four-year term and could be re-elected for one additional term, allowing them to serve a maximum of eight years in office.

“The newly elected members will undergo induction training and will be sworn in after the outgoing executive hands over office to them,” Opoka said.

Bosco Calo Kidega, the Assistant Commercial Officer for Pandwong Division, urged the new leaders to work hard and fulfil the mandate for which they were elected.

“You must sacrifice yourselves and work for the good of your members. It is important to maintain your cooperative so that you can benefit from government programmes, because it is now mandatory to be in a group to access government support,” Kidega said.

Stephen Labalpiny Oketa, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, called on the new leadership to remain united and focused on developing the cooperative.

“Work together to take KITODCSL to the next level. When your time to leave comes, ensure you leave behind a good legacy,” Oketa urged.

The cooperative society brings together taxi owners and drivers in Kitgum Municipality and district and plays a key role in organising the transport sector and mobilising members for government development programmes.
