DODOMA, May, 21 2025 — Tanzania’s Minister of Minerals, Antony Mavunde, has urged cooperative societies in the country to establish strategic partnerships that address the economic and social needs of the citizens.

Speaking during the Cooperative Development Forum Summit held in Dodoma City from  May 15 —to 16 2025, under the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World”, minister Mavunde emphasised the vital role cooperatives play in improving people’s lives.

“Cooperatives are a powerful tool that directly impacts society,” said the minister. “I commend you for the good work you are doing — it is visible and impactful. However, do not become complacent. Strive for greater achievements that will uplift citizens economically, and always follow the established guidelines to ensure cooperatives remain productive and sustainable.”

The summit brought together various stakeholders to discuss opportunities, achievements, and challenges facing cooperatives, and to share best practices.

Ibrahim Sumbe, Chairperson of the Dodoma Regional Cooperative Development Forum, noted that the objective of the forum is to unite cooperatives in dialogue, enabling them to learn from one another and collectively address shared challenges.

Meanwhile, Consolata Kiluma, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies – Mobilisation, urged cooperatives to continue strengthening their operations and remain committed to serving their members in compliance with the law and the directives of the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission [TCDC].

Kiluma also encouraged the adoption and integration of digital systems to improve service delivery.

“Associations should embrace digital platforms to enhance speed, efficiency, and accuracy when serving their members,” she said. “This will help reduce complaints and ensure the continued use of the MUVU system, with all required data being properly entered.”
