Sustainable Finance Curriculum to be launched in Kampala on Tuesday

This curriculum is an essential step towards promoting green and inclusive finance in the country

KAMPALA, November 2, 2025 — A new Sustainable Finance Curriculum, developed through a partnership between aBi Finance Limited and the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services [UIBFS], is set to be launched at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel this Tuesday, according to Mona Muguma-Ssebuliba, Chief Executive Officer of aBi Finance Limited.

The curriculum is expected to play a key role in strengthening Uganda’s financial sector by equipping professionals with the knowledge and practical tools required to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance [ESG] and sustainability principles into financial decision-making.

This curriculum is an essential step towards promoting green and inclusive finance in the country.

A number of distinguished guests and speakers are expected to attend the launch, including Felix Okoboi, Chair of aBi Finance Limited and aBi Development Limited, and David Kalyango, Executive Director of Supervision at the Bank of Uganda.

According to the event programme availed to theCooperator News, representatives from key stakeholders such as the European Union Delegation to Uganda and the Royal Danish Embassy will also address the gathering.

Goretti Masadde, CEO of UIBFS, will present the new curriculum to the audience, outlining how it is expected to enhance the quality and depth of financial services training in Uganda.

aBi Finance Limited provides Lines of Credit [LoCs] to financial institutions for on-lending to agribusinesses across the entire value chain.

The organisation also operates an Agriculture Loan Guarantee Scheme [ALGs] to help financial institutions share risks associated with loan defaults. As of December 2017, aBi’s financial products had facilitated over 231,000 new loans to producers and businesses.

Through its Financial Services Development [FSD] programme, aBi Finance also offers matching grants to financial institutions to build institutional capacity, enhance service delivery, and expand outreach in rural areas.

On the other hand, the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services [UIBFS] delivers training, examinations, and certification in banking and finance. Its programmes cover areas: Professional Courses, Short and Executive Programmes, Specialised Training, and the Master of Arts in Financial Services, offered in collaboration with Makerere University, Uganda’s leading public university.
